The Pakistan Motorway Police was launched in 1998 to police Pakistan’s newly constructed motorway network And which started with M-2 later in June 2001 it was also assigned the additional task of patrolling the national Highway of Pakistan starting from N-5 the longest national highway of Pakistan The name of Pakistan Motorways Police was changed to National Highway Motorway Police with the assumption of additional role of national highways and patrolling. In February 2007, the NHMP was launched by the Makran Coastal Highway and Start The Policing Inspector General of Police Mr. Afzal Ali Shagri was entrusted with the task of preparing the plan for the new force and was assisted by the Junior Officer of the Transport Cell, Mr. Shamim Ahmed. He conceptualized and prepared a comprehensive proposal for establishing an efficient and modern highway police for the new motorway.
